Water Safety Awareness At The Horsefair
Wisbech Lifesaving Club will be heading to Centre on Saturday, 23rd June from 10am – 4pm. The group will be offering information to shoppers on water safety in a bid to reduce the number of deaths from drowning.
More than 400 people drown in the UK each year and the thousands suffer near drowning experiences. Water is one of the biggest causes of accidental deaths in youngsters. Those living in and around Fenland are especially at risk due to the number of rivers, dykes, ponds and flooded pits.
Speaking about the awareness event, Horsefair Manager, Kevin Smith said: “The Wisbech Lifesaving Club are doing a really important job by highlighting water safety to the local community, especially with many families planning holidays by the sea with the summer break coming up.”
