Wisbech Lions Club has organised the race which will take place between the Freedom and Town bridges in a bid to raise cash for local schools.

Between 10am and 3pm on Saturday, 14th May, shoppers can buy a duck to race at the event – which takes place the next day – from the Lions’ stand at the Horsefair Shopping Centre. Tickets will be priced at £1 each.

Youngsters will also have an opportunity to have their photo taken with the Kodak store’s live Donald Duck character, 6×4 photos can be printed at the store for 99p.

In addition to selling tickets, the Lions Club will be giving away Message-in-a-Bottle containers, these nationally approved tubs are for people who live alone and take medication, so that in the case of an emergency, doctors or ambulance staff will instantly recognise the tubs and be able to learn more about the patient.

Speaking about the upcoming activities at the Horsefair, Centre Manager, Kevin Smith said: “The Wisbech Lions are doing a fantastic job by helping to raise cash for local schools and promoting their helpful message-in-a-bottle containers.  I am pleased that the Horsefair is able to support their good work”

The Duck race will take place at 4:30pm on Sunday, 15th May. The winner of the race on the day will receive £200 and the runner up £50, all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The lion and the duck hope to raise funds for local schools.
