Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal Launches

The Horsefair Shopping Centre is asking the people of Wisbech to think of others this Christmas by taking part in the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal.

The Centre runs the campaign each year and always receives a phenomenal amount of support with hundreds of shoeboxes filled with goodies being donated.

Shoppers are asked to gift wrap a shoebox and fill it with gifts that will be sent to 17 countries around the world.

There are three age groups that people can fill boxes for – 2 to 4; 5 to 9; or 10 to 14. Suggested items could include toys such as a teddy bear, ball or jigsaw; an educational item, for example a colouring book or pens; and hygiene items like a toothbrush or a comb. Other items can include scarves, hats or sunglasses. Perishable items, such as chocolate and food, as well as homemade toys should not be included. Along with the boxes, a donation of £5.00 payable by cash or cheque is requested to help cover the cost of distribution.

Kevin Smith, Manager of the Horsefair Shopping Centre, said: “Every year we’re overwhelmed by the generosity of our shoppers, and how many shoeboxes are donated and I’m sure this year will the same. It’s a great way to start the generosity of the festive period early.”

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at the Information Room on the bus station or the Oasis Book Shop on Norfolk Street, Thursday 1st November and Friday 16th November. Leaflets with gift ideas, as well as a donation envelope and age group stickers, are available from the drop off points.
