Rose Fair 2017
Welcome to the Capital of the Fens and to one of the finest flower festivals in England, but Rose Fair is so much more than just a flower festival. Set in the unique Fenland landscape, the market town of Wisbech with its elegant Georgian architecture won ‘Anglia in Bloom’ Gold Awards each year between 2008 – 2014 and again in 2016 and was judged best large town / small city in the Anglia region each year in 2011 to 2014.
During Rose Fair the whole town takes on a festive atmosphere, celebrating its horticultural heritage. The jewel in the crown is our magnificent church of St Peter & St Paul – which celebrated it’s 900th anniversary in 2011. The Flower Festival Theme for 2017 is “The Artist’s Palette”. It brings together traditional flowers and exotic blooms for a breathtaking display. There are also floral displays in three other town centre churches, each with its own particular theme and character. So there are four flower festivals to visit in one go!
The Rose Fair began in 1963 when local rose growers sold rose buds in the Parish Church in aid of its restoration fund. The church still uses this wonderful occasion to raise funds for the upkeep of its ancient building, but over the years, the Rose Fair has grown into a Town Festival where other Wisbech churches and organisations open their doors and provide stalls and events to raise money for their causes. We hope you will find the details in this website interesting and we look forward to seeing you at the Wisbech Rose Fair 2017.
